Ford Sync wont update

Hi Curtwhite,
Here are the instructions for installing updates:
1. Press the PHONE button on the radio.
2. Select SETTINGS.
3. Select ADVANCED.
4. Scroll down and select INSTALL APPLICATION.
However, there is an ongoing issue with version 4.4. Send the VIN in a private message if you're unable to install.

I am attempting to update my vehicle's sync from Gen1-V3.1 to SYNC 4.4.

Are you experiencing any specific issues when trying to perform the SYNC 4.4 update?

I have a clean usb stick formatted FAT32 with only the directory and the install and autoinstall files.

Below are the steps I followed:
1. Launch IE
2. Clear cache, history, files
3. Download update (DE8T-14D544-AC)
4. Extract contents to new folder (107mb)
i. SynchMyRide folder
ii. autoinstall
iii. install
5. Copy contents to root of usb stick
6. Insert USB stick
7. Navigate to Install App prompt
8. Installation file not found is what I see and hear over synch.
Any ideas?
Is the problem due to the fact that my truck has never been updated since new and there some intermediate updates I need to apply first?

Maybe we're talking different trucks/radios/etc (not sure what Gen 1 is), but
1) I upgraded my 2012 Lariat basic sync from the original version to 4.4 (ie no intermediate installations were needed)
2) The file I downloaded from Ford was
DR3T-14D544-AF
maybe the truck year/model/radio type had something to do with the different name, so just pointing that out
3) Your overall steps seem correct to me

You've followed the proper steps to download, extract, and install. I recommend performing a master reset on the truck and try the installation again. You can find the reset steps here: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-...html?sync=sync. If the update still won't install, send your VIN in a PM.

Numerous attempts, all with different USB sticks. Please help.

I'm not positive, because it's been several months, but I think I had to put all the extracted files on the usb outside of their folders...

Do you mean move the .cab files up to the root, or extract the contents of each .cab file and move those to the root?
