Ford Sync wont update
If you open the original download and see anything other than a SYNCmyride folder (with several zipped files inside), autoinstall.lst, and install.lst listed then, the files are not going to copy properly in order for the update to install. If you are using a Mac, right click on the downloaded file, and choose to open with Stuffit Expander. SYNCmyride should not show as an attachment to any cab files, and autoinstall, and install should be listed outside of the SYNCmyride folder. If you are using a Windows PC, you must choose to extract those 3 items directly from the download and choose the flashdrive as the destination point. For anyone who has attempted this, please delete the files from the computer and redownload the update to try again. The files’ names may differ because they are VIN specific, but the 3 that I mentioned, will all be listed the same and that it is all that you need on the USB. You should not have to make any alterations to the files, folder, or names of the files. If you have a case open, I suggest that you try this as well.
Joy
I followed your instructions to re-download the file today.
This DID NOT work either.
Please advise.
IMHO - if this method is required to do it properly I believe the instructions should be updated which currently show via images and text instructions having OS X handle the .zip extraction. With no mention of third party software.
I can recall at least the last four years of OS X releases, that it has auto handled .zip files and extracted them and placed the .zip file in the trash. Which is still recoverable and usable.
This would have save me about 3 hours of investigation Saturday if this works.
I am not near the vehicle at the moment, but I have made the USB drive using this method and will post an update around 6:00 pm CST 05/16.2016.
I still do Thank you for your help Joy (I also see a Cara on here) as I know you are only one person and there are many that make these updates come to fruition.
You're welcome. I am looking forward to reading your post!
Are you having an issue seeing the correct files or do you have the files correctly, but you still receive an error when trying to install them?
Joy
I still receive an error when trying to install them.

I select USB, System Settings, Advanced, Install Application, Install...
There should be a 'record' of this information with the following case number:

I'm glad to hear your system is working now. As for the update, use the Version Checker Tool available here to see if the software finished installing to SYNC: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account....html#/prepare
Let me know if you have any questions!

Installed right away. Got the install complete message after about 10 minutes. Looked like it was stalled. Re-synced my phone via Bluetooth and it jump started everything.
I now see media info while connected via Bluetooth. Yay.
Joy, Cara, and Barb. Please request that Ford highly suggest the use of Stuffit in the instructions. This would reduce our headache as well as yours I'm sure. First time I had to use third party decompressing software in a long long time.
Cheers.

Are you installing the 4.4 or 4.6 update?
Cara
Do the file names mentioned in the install text files match the file names in the directory ?
This is my first Ford and my first truck. Loving it except this upgrade issue. I called the 800 number listed in the radio contacts to try and get it resolved; however, I wasn't able to get very far before they said go to any dealer to get it fixed.
VEHICLE: 2010 F150 Lariat SuperCrew (44k miles out of warranty)
CURRENT SYNC VERSION: Gen1 - V3.1
AVAILABLE VERSION: Sync 4.4 (DE8T-14D544-AC.zip)
Here is what I do to recreate the issue.
1. Formatted the 8GB Toshiba with FAT32 (Non-Quick format)
2. Downloaded DE8T-14D544-AC.zip to my Windows Desktop
3. Extracted Files in .zip to the 8GB Toshiba USB thumb drive's Root Folder (My E:\)
4. Verified the following files are visible.
E:\SyncMyRide (5/17/2016)
E:\SyncMyRide\8L2T-14D546-AF.cab (4/16/2016 108KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\DE8T-14D544-AC.sec (4/16/2016 109,230KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\E1BT-14D546-AA.cab (4/16/2016 18KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\E1BT-14D546-BB.cab (4/16/2016 124KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\E1BT-14D546-CA.cab (4/16/2016 72KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\E1BT-14D546-FB.cab (4/16/2016 18KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\E1BT-14D546-GA.cab (4/16/2016 238KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\E1BT-14D546-HC.CAB (4/16/2016 101KB)
E:\SyncMyRide\FJ5T-14D546-AAA.pks (4/16/2016 29KB)
E:\autoinstall.lst (4/16/2016 1KB)
E:\install.lst (4/16/2016 2KB)
5. Safely Eject the Toshiba USB from the PC
6. Turn on Car (Engine Running)
7. Plug in USB
8. Press Media Hard Button on Radio and select user device USB
9. Press Settings
10. Press Install
11. Briefly see "Beginning Installation"
12. See 'File Not Found' Error on screen and hear female sync voice saying Install file not found, be sure usb is correctly plugged, etc.
Things I have tried.
1. Opened install.lst on usb thumb drive file using Notepad app on PC and verified Contents

3. Reviewed all files match the file name and case sensitivity in SyncMyRide, they didn't so I changed them to match, still failed
4. Opened autoinstall.lst and reviewed all files match the file name and case sensitivity in SyncMyRide, etc
5. Tried without autoinstall.lst and tried without install.lst each failed.
6. Tried 2 or 3 other brand USB drives and experienced fails.
7. Tried factory resetting the radio.
My thought is that it has something to do with jumping from Gen1 3.1 to Sync4.4. I would like to find a version in between these versions to see what happens during install. My guess is that I could go to Gen1 3.1 to Gen1 3.2+ without any issues.
Any other thoughts on what might be causing the file not found issue?
