It is a 5.8 with automatic transmission. On the code sticker it shows axle 33,which,I believe is a 3.08.
What fuel mileage will I get around town and on the hiway?
Sorry,89.I have fat fingers. If I may ask why for now?How is your gas mileage?
I'm going to be doing a full bumper to bumper rebuild. And I'm swapping in a modified 300 inline 6 cylinder and 4spd manual transmission. Not to improve mileage ( my mileage will most likely stay the same or get slightly worse ) . I just prefer the 300 plus it's much easier to work on.
The 5.8L is a good engine. They are dependable and make decent torque/power.
I have an 81 E150 shorty, with 300 and 3+1 overdrive now.My clutch pedal twisted off.Been down for 3 or 4 months.I just posted in WTB for a pedal assembly, and linkage.I know what you mean. The 5.8 don't look like fun to work on.
Good luck on the pedals and linkage. They are not easy or cheap to find. You might have to buy a whole van just to get the parts.
Right now I only know of two manual transmission vans for sale in my area. One is $750.00 and the other is $800. And neither are road worthy. The $800 one is so rusty it looks like it would fall apart just loading it on the trailer.
I've owned a few 5.8L powered vans ( more then 10 ) . And I've never had one fail on me. Right now I have two. My 96 E250 has the 5.8L with around 250,000 miles on it and it still runs strong. The one in my 89 E350 runs great it just has oil leaks. But I decided if I had to pull it out to throw a gasket set in it. I might as well build a 300 for it and make life a little easier in the future.
