I have an '86 Econoline E?50. I know it is not an E150 as it has the 8 bolt pattern. It has the straight 6, a trans code of G, and an axle code of 32. The GVWR on the van is 8800lbs, so I am thinking that it is likely an E350. I am not having any luck with the axle code as nothing I have been able to find lists a code of 32 for any year!! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Is your rear axle a flange type or is it a full floating axle with a hub that sticks out about 4 inches through the wheel center? If it is a flange type then it is a light duty 3/4 ton basically a 1/2 ton with heavier axles and springs. If it has the full floating axle then it is a heavy duty 3/4 ton or a one ton van.
Thanks for the info. It has the 8 lug bolt wheels with the pull out the axle to check the brakes system..... so I know that it is a heavier duty axle. Usually the code books will state the capacity of the axle as well as the maker. I suspect that it is either a Dana 60 or a Dana 70. Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the 2?
My chart isn't specific about what brand the axle is, it just says 4.10. I would suspect it is a Ford 10.25" though. Here are some pics to help you identify it.

If it doesn't look like any of those, then get back to me.
Thanks for the info. Great diagrams!!
I looked again and it has 10 mounting bolts on the cover so it is not the Ford differential. This means that it is either a Dana 60 or 70 ( I think). Comparing the diagrams to the dif, it has a circle on each side near where the tubes come out so I think that it is a Dana 60. In the diagram the left side looks different than the right side. On mine they both look the same. It appears that on the Dana 70 that the holes are in a raised segment which is not present on my dif. It is rather difficult to get a good look at the dif as there are propane tanks in the way and there are some brackets bolted onto the cover plate.
I was afraid they might stick an oddball like that on there. But, both sides being the same seems to be the key and now, even though it seems like it's a little light, I'm leanin' towards it being a Dana 44 (8.5"). As a bad street magician might say: Is this your axle?

Well.... not exactly. The 2 sides are identical, the hole is so round that it looks like a washer on each side. All the diagrams so far have shown the either the sides different or additional casting joining onto the "hole". When I look at the right side of the Dana 60 diagram, I would say that there is a match. On mine the other side is identical. The Dana 44 shows the holes very close to where the axle tubes come out. On mine they are right beside the rear end cover plate (like on the Dana 60). I also think that a Dana 44 would be too light as the sticker rating for the rear of the vehicle is 6084#s.
I think that all considered, the Dana 60 is the closest we have come to. Thanks again
