remote key fob programming
My 2000 excursion will not enter the program mode to allow me to program 2 new remote fobs. A couple of years ago I successfully programmed two remotes and it was easy. One broke so I thought well I will buy 2 more. I have tried the procedure over 100 times and I can not make it work. Followed instructions to a tee that came with the fobs and also the procedure in owners manual. Is there a relay that could be bad? I can use the door number code and my last key fob still works fine. I have disconnected the battery, both cables, held them together for 1 minute and left them off for 1/2 hour. Still no luck. Anyone got any ideas?

Thank you guys for your thoughts. I can not imagine that this would play a part in all this, but i installed a new radio/dvd player that is attached to two overhead monitors. I understand that the remote keyless entry module is behind the radio. Couple that with the fact that the new radio has a remote transmitter. I guess in my radio install i could have screwed something up and or would that radio transmitter screw something up?

I don't know what problem is I am just saying that aftermarket fobs often have dead batteries in them when you get them even though they are brand new.
I recently bought 4 new chi-com fobs, 3 had dead batteries right out of the package.

Ok here is the latest on my key fob problem. I have tied to enter program mode at least 200 times. So today I pulled into the garage and thought heck I will try again. The only difference this time is that the windshield wipers were running. Bam it worked after the third try. Then as per pirates post I successfully programmed my old one then one of the two new ones. Second new one would not program. It is probably a bad battery. My answer to that since I bought them on Amazon is to send the company a note and I bet they send me two new ones. No reason for me to spend money on a new battery. So can anyone figure out why the heck the windshield wiper would make a difference or just luck?

So I am not crazy! Well my friends say a I am but not in this case. So does anyone have an explanation for this fix?? I know some of you gurus will have at least a theory. I really want to know how the heck this could have any correlation.

Fwiw, I vaugly recall reading In The owners manual that it is only possible to program 4 fobs at time. Or maybe that was in one of my other cars.... Hmmm we'll be aware of it if you can't get the fifth one to work.
