Still trying to program new key fobs. Ex won't enter program mode. We have two working key fobs already. Question is what might be broken in the module to prevent programming mode? Would we need to buy a whole new module? Ford wants $150 just to check it out. Is there a fuse for it and if so if it blew would our current key fobs still work? How diy is diagnosing and fixing this?
At this point I would test each fuse with a test light and make sure you dont have a blown one. You don't have any aftermarket alarms or remote starts or anything? When I did my Mountaineer I had to slow down my ignition sequences to be almost right at the 10 second limit for the locks to respond and let me program. Going too fast would not work on it.

No aftermarket remotes or alarms. Tried slowing it down, speeding it up and everything in between. Will test for the blown fuse eventually. Tried disconnecting the battery too.

Do you own any other Ford vehicles with transmitters?
I've found (Through messing with the Ford vehicles at work; a 2008 Ford Transit Connect, a 2015 Explorer, a 2006 Taurus, a 2010 Expedition, etc etc etc.) that you have to get the timing almost perfect.
I've also found that trying to "beat the clock" messes up the rhythm.
Try your key sequence on another Ford just to be sure you're doing it right.

8 turns in 10 sec or less.
Yes, an Expedition. Worked like a charm when I did those fobs a few months ago.
Have you thought of prying them apart and putting the rubber buttons from your new remotes in the old guts? It really is that simple
Not exactly. There are rubber covers you can buy to put over the whole thing but then what happens when the whole thing dies? It is not a huge pressing issue right at this moment but I want to know what is wrong so we are not stuck in the future.
