Problem: The two injectors closest to the firewall in my rig seem to have small leaks. The fuel weeps from the base of the injector to the galley where the glow plugs sit. NAPA sells an injector o-ring kit, Part Number: FPG ES70599, by FEL-PRO. Does anyone have first hand experience with a particular brand of injector o-rings? Or all commercially available kit from any of the big brand stores will work about the same?
Viton 111 0-rings. If its leaking between the injector and head, it probably needs copper washers, but a good cinching down should do it. If the little plastic bits with rubber line are wet / leaking. Just the 0-rings should do ya.
Yes, but i would get a pack of 25 and do all 8 injectors. There are two 0-rings per injector. While i was at it, i would replace all of the rubber lines between the injector caps too. If i remember right, there are 1/4" and 3/16" variations, but i dont remember which years are which. I want to say later models are 1/4"
If you dont want to piece the stuff together, you can get a kit. Diapco makes one which is supposed to be the better, comes with new caps (plastic parts) but rubber o-rings, which dont last like the viton.
When you install the new O-rings, use Lithium/wheel bearing grease to coat them before installation.
It works /wonders/ to prevent leaks; using Vaseline DOES NOT work right.
i will second what the guys have said. plus, when installing the o-rings, put the upper o-ring on first, then put the lower one on by putting it over the upper one. this will help prevent damaging the lower o-ring.
The orings everyone are referring to are the ones for the caps that sit on the top of the injector. Is that where your leak is? You post kinda sounds like you may be talking about something else.
