So, you can't program a pats key to work in 2 different vehicles?

You could, but it would not be simple. You would need a computer that does PATS or go to the dealership and enlist their help. You would need to convert the PATS module on one to the keys of the other truck so they would both "accept" the chips in all the keys.

If you didn't mind the PAT system not functioning on one of the Excursions it would be a fairly simple process to convert both vehicles to use one key.

I don't think you can DIY the key fobs for the keyless entry though. So you would still have 2 fobs on your key ring if you want to use the remote lock/unlock function.
