2005 6.0, diesel XLT, Last week I stopped the truck shut off ignition and pulled the key, when I opened door the buzzer went off like the key was still in the ignition, I wiggled switch without key in it and it stopped but will start again if I wiggle it. is it the lock mechanism or the ignition switch itself? How hard is it to replace?
There's a set of contacts in there that may be getting worn/loose. The good part is they are on the outside of the ignition switch assy. To remove the switch you need a skinny allen wrench( 1 or 1.5 mm) . Look up at the bottom of the steering column and you'll see holes for the screws that hold the column trim together, and one under the ignition switch. Turn the key to run, press the allen wrench firmly up into the hole under the switch, and pull the switch straight out. Look around the outside of it and you'll see a set of exposed electrical contacts. You can either open them up a hair, or put a small piece of electrical tape between them so the dinger doesn't go off when you have the door open and key in the ignition. Slide the switch back into the column when you're done. I did this years ago because I'm always tinkering on the truck with the key in and door open, and that noise drove me nuts.
At last I can silence that chime, it's been driving me nuts since I bought truck new (06) . Simple, easy , quick thank you thank you my heads stopped dinging
