Surface rust spots
I have a 2012 F-150 " Lariat " that I purchased in February, 2013. My 3 yr., 36 month warranty expires soon. After hosing it off yesterday, I noticed several tiny spots of rust on the white paint. Most of it is on the tailgate, but there are several spots on every panel and door of the truck, which is a crew cab. There are only 28,600 miles on the truck, and I take great care of it. What do I do now? Any way to remove this rust? Is this a common problem? Thanks in advance for your help!

I would bet it is rail dust, which comes off with a clay bar or some light rubbing with polishing compound. I had the same issue with the last white truck I had. I noticed them and about freaked out until I found the same specs on plastic parts. An afternoon with the clay bar and some polishing compound took care of the spots. I did have to go over the truck a couple of more times after more appeared but eventually got everything.
Rail dust is pretty common on vehicles that were transported that way. The metal dust sticks to the clearcoat and then rusts after being exposed to moisture or salt. It really can't be felt by the hand and only shows up on light colored vehicles.

Not sure why people think any manufacturer should or would do anything for an issue after the warranty on said item expires. Yeah it sucks when this kind of thing happens, but that's life. Not sure how many miles are on your truck. But the fact is that the warranty expired. So why would you think that Ford should pay for this. No manufacturer would. Nor do any of them offer lifetime rust through warranty.
