have a 2017 super cab xl. only 5k miles, white exterior. New to the board so if this has been covered, sorry in advance.
Have noticed a spot on paint other day, tried to rub it off but wouldn’t come off. Examined closer and is a rust spot below the clear coat, or at least doesn’t come off. Upon closer inspection of truck body the entire truck is covered with tiny rust spots under the clear coat. Going to swing by dealer later this week and see what they have to say. Curious if anyone has had this and the outcome?
My white truck in the past would also collect a lot of what appeared to be tiny iron-rust colored spots. You didn't really notice unless you were looking up close. Mine seemed to come off if you really scrubbed, but would eventually return.
Because your truck is aluminum, you will never see iron-colored rust on the body panels. Aluminum corrosion is white and powdery.
Rail dust. Brand new vehicles can have it from being transported on trains, sitting in rail yards. You can also get it from brakes. Easiest to see on white paint.
Wash your truck well, followed by a clay bar detailing. If any remains, there are spray on/wash off products you can use.
If you need a how-to, look to youtube. Otherwise a good detailer can take care of you.
IMO, every new vehicle should get a good clay bar detail on day one followed by a good waxing.
You don't indicate where you're from. But, if your from an area that has snow plows, then some that could be material from the plow blades. I usually find that stuff on the paint each spring when when I do a good cleaning. The clay bar works really well for getting it off.
Tbc420, do me a favor. Look at your window sticker and on the lower part where it says Method of Transport, tell me what is says there.
Rail or Convoy?

tia!
This doesn't matter. It not only comes from the rail cars but it comes from your own vehicle and others brake dust. You deal with this for the life of the vehicle. Consider it "white privilege"

Believe it or not wheel cleaner does a great job. Being a strong chemical, use a known safe product and procedure. Avoid strong sunlight and don't let the wheel cleaner dry on the paint.
Here's a video by a man who understands detailing.
