I have a 2012 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew. Color is white, and the other day while at the carwash I noticed small dots of rust on the tailgate and one of the quarter panels. Is there a safe way to remove this without damaging the paint, or should I head to the dealer. The truck has about 20,000 miles on it and is in great condition. 3 yr factory warranty will expire in February, 2016 as the truck was purchased as a 2012 leftover in February, 2013. Thanks for your input!
it could be rail dust that stuck on the paint and started rusting. Buy some polishing compound and see if that takes it off. I had the same problem with the only white truck I've owned. After the first winter I washed it and when I went to detail it there were rust colored specs all over the truck. Buddy told me it was rail dust and to try some polishing compound on it, it took it right off.
I had rail dust when the dealer delivered my last white truck. I told them I wanted it taken care of before I would sign the papers. They had it detailed with a clay bar and it removed all of it without any further issues.
