Fuel filter electrical wire question

I just got my truck back from the dealer, seemed okay, ran good. Then we had some wet snow rain mix. Started getting a water in the fuel light, parked the truck and drained about a 1/2 gallon of fuel but it did not look like anything in it. Fuel looked clear without any kind of seperation.

I noticed in the process that there is an electrical wire the runs to the fuel filter and it was not connected. It was wet.

What is the possibility that, that disconnected wire being wet was giving me a false/positive reading. I know the service tech was supposed to have changed out the fuel filter and that work had been done around the DEF tank etc.

Again I appreciate your replies.

That is your "Water In Fuel" sensor (WIF), and yes that is exactly why you got the WIF message in the truck. Blow the plug out add reconnect. Lastly, make sure your servicing dealer knows that this mistake was made, if they don't know there's a problem they can't fix it.

If you had to pay for this repair I would send the bill to the person who disconnected the wire.

Thanks for the replies. Was thinking about blowing connections off with a hair dryer, good or bad idea. Reason I ask, not sure if there could be any frozen moisture on the connectors, its 19 degrees outside, although the truck is indoors presently.

One last question on this wire that was disconnected, would that also have led to a "reduced power" message. This is all a learning time. Again thanks.

I would not use a hair dryer. Dielectric grease.
Yes I believe it could send the motor into a derated status. Don't know off hand.

I would leave it as is and go back to the dealer to let them see it, and document it on your service history that you got a WIF code because of something they did, not bad fuel you put in.
