Fuel filter wire??

Ther is a red wire ontop where my fuel filter screws into. I believe where the wire plugs in is leaking. Is this possible or should I check else where's?

Sounds like youre referring to the fuel heater. Common leak area, new one is about $230 from Ford, or you can try and source a new o-ring, we had no such luck. The other option is tap it for a plug.

What do you mean tap it for a plug?
And how does it come out to change the o-ring? I'm sure I can find something to fit.

You have to remove the fuel heater, and cut thteads with a pipe tap, and put a pipe plug in it. To change the o-ring, remove filter head from engine, remove filter, remove the filter to head adapter, and the fuel heater sould come off. The o-ring goes around the electrical plug from the heater to the head.

Ok so no matter what I have to take the filter head off?
And what does the heater do? Do I need it?

Yes, to fix it, the filter head has to come off. The heater is to warm the fuel to help keep it from waxing and plugging the filter in cold temps. I really don't know how much it helps, but several over in the OBS stroke forum have deleated the bowl heater, and had no problems.

The 6.9 does't have the heater in the head, but it has one. It is wrapped around the fuel line that runs from the lift pump to the filter head.

When it senses vaccume it turns the fuel filter light on, like when the filter is dirty.
I guess the name is fuel restriction sensor.

Ok so I fixed it earlier
Took about 45 min. Found an o-ring that fit bit then it wouldn't fit in the hole and I was told the actual o-rings are thin walls and that's y they leak so I took a dremel and opened it up a Lil to make my o-ring that we keep around alot fit. Made it fit pretty tight and added a little rtv cylicone for added precaution.
Thanks for the help and info guys

a little late, but here is a helpful thread. I had the same problem and found a new element on E-bay for 80 bucks with shipping. This thread is pic heavy and very useful.

Good luck,
