I also drilled and tapped for the Pyro and I removed my batteries to clean up some corrosion. I wonder if I didn't put that back on properly. I guess I will have to review things tomorrow.

What would cause the turbo to whistle louder?

Did you run your wiring through the opening in the firewall next to the parking brake pedal? If so, maybe a flap of insulation or the firewall plug wasn't replaced properly allowing more engine compartment noise to enter the cab. Ask me how I know this...

I thought about that but I used grommets and the wiring seems pretty tight. I also feel with the window down it also sounds a bit louder but my mind may be playing tricks on me.

I will check that out also just to make sure. I can add something to help dampen the sound. It could be as simple as that.

Maybe while you were messing with things in there, you either fixed or caused an air leak.

Tugly---say it aint so----

Ok, reviewing things in my head.....

The fuel pressure gauge would have no bearing here so we will leave that one out of it.

The Pyro, I used a center punch to mark where I was going to drill. I drilled and tapped in the manifold like so many others. Could I have knocked something loose on the manifold that now is introducing air?

The Boost gauge, I simply removed the AIH and replaced it with the plug and sensor. 2 situations:
- 1. the old AIH could have been leaking causing an air leak
- 2. the new one is leaking and causing an air leak

I removed the battery so I had to remove a piece of the air intake so I could have bumped something there to introduce more air, I guess.

Those are my thoughts. I guess I now have more work to do.

As I sit here and scratch my head.....

The louder whistle from the turbo is now gone, crazy thing is I have not had any time to make any changes or tests.

Here is one variable but I am not sure it would make a difference. While doing some of the wiring under the dash, I did engage the parking brake maybe one click. It didn't register the brake light on the dash for awhile but it eventually did. I dis-engaged the e-brake but I don't recall the sound going away right after that. Could something have been tricked into thinking it was parked and engaging some valve causing the turbo to be louder?

I took my Excursion on a 320 mile drive up to Tahoe from the San Francisco area yesterday and it ran like a champ. Didn't here the turbo loud like I did when I first test drove it after the gauge install.

It was cool to see what is going on with the EX while driving. I was interesting to see the EGT's rise while driving in the mountains.

I guess it will go unexplained for now.

Thanks, Tim M

The EGT's will come up in the mountains because the truck is working harder to get up the incline and the air is thinner. Here in north GA I see 600-750ish cruising at 70 MPH and then if I get on it the EGT's will get near 1000. It is said that you can run at 1200-1250 all day long, but when you get above that you need to back off the throttle and let her cool down.

This is all second hand information of course, other than what I have seen on my truck. Your right though, it is cool to see how the truck is performing in real time.

In addition to the gauges (EGT, FP, boost) I set up an old Android Razr phone as a Torque Pro tool. It no longer has cell service, so it is a Torque Pro mini tablet of sorts. I keep track of other things like duty cycle, EOT, etc with it.

Your EGT numbers matched what I was seeing while driving through the mountains. I didn't push it hard enough to reach 1200 but I know it can.

This is exactly what I am going to do to get the remaining gauges for my EX. I have everything I need for it but just need to get it all dialed in. I also have a chip that I will install now that I have the gauges.
1. bluetooth odbII connector
2. torque pro app.
3. an old android
4. a mount for it.

Maybe ill throw that in today.
