Replaced my other locking hub and don't think it's going into 4x4 when I turn the switch. I here a click when I turn the **** BUT heat immediately goes to defrost. I'm afraid of where I need to look give the recent work I've done. Any thoughts.
Pull the line off at the wheel well and vacuum the hose to the hub. At least will tell you if it's a hub or hose/pump issue.
Three things in the wheel, o-ring on the hub or o-ring on the wheel bearing and the axle seal, really all there is. Special tool for axle seals, $70 for the seal and may e rent the tool or o-rings at $10 each. About 30-45 minutes for an axle seal with the right tools. No sweet job.

I'll try that. Yep know all the parts and still have the tools if it comes to that.

It's the pump that is still running after the injector buzz? It did seem to run longer then normal but started the truck before it stopped. Will check again. Pretty confident in the orings and seals but that was the last things I've touched.
Could you hook a vacuum tester to the knuckle port and see if a vacuum be pulled and if it does the seals are good?
See if this video will at least help you isolate the leak. If it was good before the work I would bet it's something at the hubs. My brother inadvertently boogered up the yellow o-ring when he replaced all his front end parts...
Let me know how you make out on this, I can walk you through step by steps pretty easy. I had a vacuum pump issue once, replaced it, had a hose set from pump to the tank to replace, had the seals done, ball joints, the hoses down to each wheel also come off, fail as well. Also had to buy a new 4*4 vacuum control valve, just would hold vacuum the little rubber seals were dry and loosing vacuum to fast, pump was working hard. I currently am locking hubs manually and have the vacuum pump routed to just the HVAC as I am always in 4*4 these days.

Will do. Hopefully it's just a hose not sealing. They were pretty tight when I took them off the knuckle and don't seem as tight now.
Didn't have time to fully trouble shoot but a couple of things this morning.
Pump did turn off after it's normal run with KOEO--now I didn't have the 4x4 turned on (didn't think of that) turned the 4x4 on and pulling out of the yard I turned the wheel almost to the lock and didn't get any bind so figured the hubs weren't locked. On the highway almost to work I turned the 4x4 on and felt the normal clunk and heater did not revert to defrost.
Well, maybe just needed to sure set things and it is working. First place I check is the hose on the heater line above the turbo, it does come off if you bump it. S cond place is on the axle below the tank, the hose going to the passenger side knuckle has a break in it where it goes through a bracket and is tied together with a barbed tube. Mine has opened several times, just needs to be put back together. Hopefully that is it for you.
I'll be looking at it further because I think I have rotten luck lol.
I revert back to I only touched xxx but you know the 6.0 touch one thing something total different goes
Well veified this evening......all is well. 4x4 works in auto and no default to defrost. I did change the passenger side locking hub last night but it still defaulted. Didn't do a thing extra today but it all worked fine. I guess things just had to get settled after the new seals and such??? Seems strange but I'll take it.
My truck did the same thing after all the work I did. I broke the hoses at the reservoir. After replacing the hoses, It took a couple of times putting it in and taking it out of 4x4 before it started working properly.

Glad it's working tho...
Whew...makes me feel better about it. I guess it needs a vacuum pulled a fewmtimes to set everything. Thanks I'm glad too. Nothing worse then doing alotmof work and getting something wrong or messing up something because of it.
