Ok. 2000 f250 diesel. Did ball joints and a hub last summer (thanks for the help on the ball joints, guys).
Right hub has vacuum leak. I replaced the hub while doing the joints. It had a new o-ring on it. I have verified the leak is coming from the axle side of the knuckle. I just want to verify what seals the inside of the knuckle. Is it the large pressed on metal seal on the axle? Don't under stand how a rotating seal can seal vacuum, please enlighten me. Any hints on replacing this seal ?(don't know how it could have gotten damaged, did not distort it during the job).
Anyway, I thought I'd ask all for input. And thanks again.
Yep. Check and replace hoses thruout for the heck of it. Using the pump, a hand vacuum pump, clamps to isolate, etc. I found it to be a problem only in the hub. I pulled the hub apart, verified the new o-ring was ok, re greased. I cleaned the inside of the knuckle, cleaned out the fitting. Still leaks when I hand pump at the hub. Pretty sure the only thing sealing the back of the knuckle is the metal axle seal, just wanted some feedback to reinforce my findings before I go visit the Ford parts guys.
Thanks
Bob
YZ250 I like that so much. I put it in my favorites. I just hope I can find a full day to do a maintenance. I have been told that the hubs are non-serviceable and non-re-buildable. I guess it was a good night to be on truck enthusiast, very useful information.

Well, that's zx250 or Barry and yes Guzzle is one of my heros when it comes the SuperDutys and 7.3s. He has a great site (http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/) with lots of good reading. He's been in my favorites for a long time now. He is always looking and working to find better ways to service our trucks. He is also a member of FTE and stops by once in a while to share his thoughts with us.
that large seal is what seals the back side of the knuckle so if the yellow o-ring is not the problem of the leak then it is the large seal, yeah it's a **** poor design but it is what it is, no wonder the auto hubs are so problematic.
