It's not that kind of plow Randy. It just rides up and down on a pair of bars and loops.
I think I did Dave. LOL
Never heard of a plow that doesn't lift and drop... Either way - pushing a plow that is already in contact with the ground puts a lot more stress than getting the SxS moving and then lowering the plow. No skin off my nose either way - but I would never buy one that had seen plow duty at all..
Weird deal... So it is always down unless you stop and lift it up and hook it at the top?
Still - if you were up against a stiff pile of snow and stopped it would be murder on the clutch and belt to get it going... Trail riding - even going and over boulders is actually pretty easy on the clutch unless you have the SxS stalled against something really big and gass it to get over it.. A steady diet of that and you'd be putting on a new belt pretty quickly I think...
Correct it is always down unless you get off and lift it. There is a couple guys in town here that have the bigger version on there pickups. They actually seem to work pretty good.
There are many ways you could burn your clutch up pushing snow or trail riding but the guy driving just has to be smarter then the SxS!
I know a guy that burned up his belt just by running around in H gear ALL the time. Too much friction and heat build up and one day on the trail the belt shredded into pieces. I try to putt around in L and use H when I go fast!
The trick is to make sure the primary clutch engages quickly with decisive application of the throttle. I used to plow with my Sportsman and never had any issues. In low range all four wheels would spin long before the clutch slipped if the plow was stalled against a snow bank.
I put about 100 miles on that Sportsman plowing the driveway last winter and never had any issues. Pulled the belt off last summer before I sold it and it looked great. Measured the width with a caliper and it was well within spec.
I CAN STOP AGAIN!!!!! Well, not quite that dramatic but still... Damn seized caliper was killing my fuel economy, with a bit closer look it would seem both back brakes were bad (pins seized on one side and caliper piston seized on the other...).
For the first time in 2 months I can cruise down the freeway and see more than 10mpg... Yah it was that bad lol.
Now for the damn wheel bearing, tires, leveling kit, and trac bars... Where is that 700 million lotto ticket when you want it :P
