New baby driving you out of the new house already...or just rediscovering how spendy the little bundles of joy can be...?
I'm afraid I'm going to be stuck with this paint job. I mentioned there was a disabled Vet in town that painted houses and gave other vets a discount. I got a funny look from the Warden. The next day I went out into the garage to get some Elk burger out of the chest freezer and found both airless paint guns, a roller and paint pan were sitting on the lid of the freezer.....
I rented a sprayer to do the interior primer/paint and then did about 75% of the exterior with it (siding was pre-primed thankfully). Saved me a ton of time. I did all the exterior caulking as well.
We were quoted close to $10,000 for a professional painter to do all of it. Probably cost us about $2,000 for materials to do it ourselves. Thank God for the 10% veterans discount at Home Depot!
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Home from town and the care home. All quiet on the Eastern Front. Western Front seems to be holding its own so I may be looking at a squeaky clean getaway for the GTG!
Discount paint would be a good thing. I can get a 10% discount at Lowes, but it is still spendy. The other thing that could cause some issues is that we have a Stucco finished exterior (100% back, sides and garage) and 1/4 brick front with 3/4 Stucco.
Going to have a roofer come in and roof the house before we paint. We have a hip roof, a mid section overhang and roof surfaces facing all 4 points of the compass along with a 12/12 for the most part on the house, a 2/12 on the garage (metal roof) and I'm pretty sure the south facing is 14/12 pitch although I haven't actually gotten up there with the roof pitch tool I've got. I does look to be just a tad steeper than 45° and looked like death when I was up on the hip trying to figure out how in the heck to get half way down to re-calk a vent pipe. (Long rope and harness tied off to the chimney).
Jim I bought the paint for my Grandparents old house a double wide manufacturer, the paint for it was under $200 and that was with an over estimate on what was needed because of the distance to get more paint.
Now add a 2nd story....and a garage. Unless we run into some unforeseen problem with the stucco surface I really don't anticipate too much trouble once we get beyond the prep stage. A lot of old cracking and chipping paint showing now. I'm hoping the 3200 PSI pressure washer with the "second story" kit goes a long way in making the prep much easier.
All that will come later this summer. I have to get tired of fishing first!
Belated good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else except east of the Rocky's. Good afternoon to all you folks.
Dodging rain showers and running all over this morning. Trying to get a bunch done today so I can depart for Eastern Oregon at a decent time tomorrow morning.
