Yeah thats what Im trying to do, cover my azz. And historical vehicles can be used as it is currently insured with historical plates. And the 350 cab would be going on a 250 chassis, that has a solid front axle, diesel engine, and 5 speed transmission. Building the truck the way I want.
I still have the 250 cab and vin, they are still on the truck as I drive it around, and the FSuperduty cabs are hard to come buy. Im not swapping vins though because it is a felony if you get pulled over and caught, and I know a lot of cops who are cracking down on older vehicles, easy tickets.
My current cab has floorboards made of 2x4 and great stuff, and not just swapping the vin plates from cab to cab. As for the other vins they arent readily accessible to check.

You are essentially doing the same thing by swapping the cab.
the best route to go would be to use the 90 f150 cab, and reuse your F250 vin and have the door jam sticker remade.
If a cop were to run the vin on the 1980 F350 vin and they know anything(like your cops friends sound like they do) It will raise flags right away when they see a cab-n-chassis F350 vin with a single rear wheel and a pickup bed
