I have a lead on an 80 F350 cab, will it mount up on my 87 F250? I know wiring is different, but I am redoing the entire truck anyway. Is there anything else I should worry about, the title is clean and its for a good price.
I have fenders, doors and everything else for my year truck, I even have a 1990 cab. The reason I'm looking at this one is the GVW. The 90 cab is a >7700 F150 cab whereas this new on is a F37 vin which means the VW is at least 10k. My truck weighs in at 7k now and thats with the bed empty. I am adding weight in the form of a plow and solid front axle. That would put me right at the limit of the GVW without being able to use the truck.
I would rather do it because I have been pulled over before and cant really afford the ticket that comes with being over weight. The cab and chassis cab should be the same as a regular pickup cab right?

It will bolt on but the wiring runs completely different routes and has different holes.
If the GVW is the problem(like in other states) you are kinda stuck.
Putting another cab from a F350 doesnt really change the GVW
Take a CLEAR picture of the 1990 F250 vin sticker and they can be reproduced LEGALLY
In that case I wouldn't bother at all. People put too much consideration into GVWR. Brad swears it's a legal issue for him but I know of no law(he couldn't provide one either) that puts any legal authority behind the manufactures GVWR. ....
Here. The law that states the GVW cannot be changed from what the Manufacture set it at 1304(d)(2)
Maximum registered gross weight.--No truck, truck tractor or trailer shall be registered at a gross weight in excess of the lowest of:
(1) the limiting weights established on the basis of axle load, tire load, horsepower or gross weight by type of vehicles;
(2) the gross vehicle weight rating assigned by the manufacturer;
Yep I got a ticket, thankfully in my bosses truck hauling a load to the dump for him. And I would just be registering the cab and getting rid of the other cab, go with the one rated for the a higher rate. And the 1990 is an F150, and here in Michigan the vin is located at the bottom of the windshield, and I could get a new vin, with and inspection of my truck and it would say assembled in 2016, which means it is worth the scrap price should I ever want to sell it. I would rather stick with my historical status at this point.

Yes, I have heard of MI issuing a new vin of the current year. That is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard of.
So you would be putting the 80 f350 cab on the F150 chassis?

Historical status/plates here in Ontario are not GVW rated. you might want to check those laws in MI if you are worried about your GVW limit.
insurance is also an issue with historic vehicles, if you are trailer towing or using for commercial use your insurance might not be valid?
Yeah thats what Im trying to do, cover my azz. And historical vehicles can be used as it is currently insured with historical plates. And the 350 cab would be going on a 250 chassis, that has a solid front axle, diesel engine, and 5 speed transmission. Building the truck the way I want.

if you are on an F250 diesel chassis its identical to the F350 diesel chassis , frame is the same both single wheel trucks.
make sure the 1980 cab come with the vin # tag either on the dash or on the door or its pretty useless to you.
I believe all the single wheel F350s were 9200lb GVW, cab/chassis dually were 10,000lbs that's in the 89 vintage anyhow.
7.3idi ZF/Dana60 is a good combination, simplicity/reliability/endurance.
hard to beat when you keep it maintained .
I have a buddy who sold me rust free fenders, hood, doors, bed and tailgate, everything but the cab off of his truck for less than $500, and I was able to pick up a zf5 for $50, and a dana 60 for $200, so far I have been lucky. And the guy I'm buying it from has the title for the cab and the vin plate in the dash, both are a match. And its a 6.9 so it doesn't have the cylinder cavitation the 7.3's have.
