1976 F600 361CID I've put a MSD street fire ignition and a accel points eliminator, I didn't never notice before I installed these components if the turn signals would work with the key (ignition) switch off , all I know is they will work now with the key off , am I getting a back feed through one of these units that I have installed or will they work with the key off regardless of what I done!
Usually no, the turnsignals are hooked to the keyswitch. But old trucks like that are usually heavily modified through the years, and some wiring problems could definitely be the culprit.
If you suspect something you did, simply unhook it temporarily if it's easily done, the power wiring should be all you need to unhook.
If that doesn't do it, then find the signal flasher. Turn the signals on and find the one that is clicking to make sure to get the correct flasher, sometimes there is a emergency flasher also.
While it's clicking, take a testlight and poke the connector or the wires, one of them should have constant power, one should be flashing power. Once you find the constant power side of the flasher, trace this wire back and see where it's fed from. It simply needs to be fed from a part of the fuse box that does not have power when the key is off.
