Step 1:
A problem this is not, for Step2-Jedi mind tricks (and sarcasm) are appropriate for the weak minded. Why lower yourself to argue with an idiot for they will only beat you with experience. Mess with their minds, you should.
My encounters at the gas station are positive 99% of the time, as discussions on the Ex & the boat are typically cordial. Folks see 2) hoses running, me pacing back & forth between them and usually chuckle. (Reminds me of Burt filling up the Ambulance in Cannonball Run. "Pumps 1&2..Hitem!")
On the rare occasion some loon requires step 2) I become Obi Won w/ the mind tricks "You don't need to know my MPG...move along"..."I don't use the truck on the highway...I start the boat & it pushes us"..."Feeding the truck is a bargain, but the boat burns a gallon every 2 minutes". That can incite a nervous twitch.
Using truth and logic in a manner that should make them feel small, inadequate, and embarrassed for trying to make another person feel small, inadequate, and embarrassed for choosing to drive (whether for necessity or because that's what they like) a vehicle the rude person thinks shouldn't be on the road.Stewart
