crown vic parts.

crown vic parts.
I have a 1979 ford short bed two wheel drive. Right now it has a 302 motor with a c4 behind it. I'm wanting to swap over to an aod. I found a 84 crown vic that is in real good shape with good motor and transmission. My question is what to do with rest if parts. Would the front end work for my truck or any other vehicles wanting a crown vic suspension swap. What about rear end ? Thanks in advance

Yes on the engine and trans... But the trans is an early AOD.
Rear end? Dunno. Whip out your tape measure and then fire up a 220V welder for some quality time cutting and fabricating.

If you actually look a the front suspension of that CV you would see that it is integral to the frame - not on a subframe like the 03-12 CVs. It is usable only if you graft (weld, box, plate) that CV's frame to your frame.

Not all AODs are created equal. The later versions' internals are better. Both require careful calibration of the TV cable but no electronic controller.

"Desirable" is a relative term. The 03-12 CV doesn't involve very much fabrication whereas grafting a frame requires much more detailed work.

I want to second that on the TV cable , i have one in my 73 and it is very touchy easy to get out of adjustment. I would never go with an early AOD again . Step up to some thing better maybe an AODE and get a controller for it.
