im thinking of taking the body of a 59 ford f100 - what would be the modern day fit for this ? like would the body fit a 2011 ford flex chassi ? not sure of measurements either way of what might work. hope to get some responses as i am thinking of purchasing one soon.
thanks so much for any input
Well for starters I'm pretty sure the Flex is a unibody (no seperate frame). So you need to find something with a full frame with the same wheelbase and track width. Then it would be a matter of fitting the body around the drivetrain, all while making it look right. IMO I would put modern suspension/drivetrain on the frame you have. Good luck whichever route you go! Check my gallery for MII front suspension, Mustang 5.0/AOD etc.
Hi Amy, welcome to the forum! My first question for you would be, what do you hope to gain by swapping the body onto a different chassis? It's a lot of work, there's nothing besides the stock chassis that really fits correctly, and you really need an advanced level of fabrication skills to sucessfully pull off a modification like that. Most people that start such a project find they're way in over their head and end up selling or throwing away a big pile of junk before they're anywhere close to finished.
it's a pain in the **** to do the swap so if you aren't sure don't start or like 52 said you'll end up with a big pile of parts to be thrown away . i had a 55 on a 74 frame almost done when it got " destroyed " ... long story . do a suspension swap and driveline swap to your existing frame and it'll go much easier and give you what you are wanting . now if you just like to tinker well ... get another truck / frame and go to town and play . don't rip apart your good one till your sure !!!!!!!!!!
