51panelman, thanks for the offer. More likely than not I'm going to try using the tank from the crown vic that I'm using for parts. If that doesn't work I'm going to have one made to size and fit it between the frame in the rear of the truck. Then I have more room for my air tank for the air ride system.
My tank is actually in decent shape other than being old and dirty. So if anyone reading this needs ones you can have mine as well.
Thanks thats good to know. I planned to move the filler to behind the drivers rear tire and put a modern round door. I think the vic has a round door and I can just cut it out and weld it in. I might even hook up the electronic popper to open the lid.
That's about right where I wanted to put it. Do you have a full side pic of it? I haven't seen it done and would love to see what it looks like before I cut into it.
Got a little progress done today on the ds rear fender lips. Got pics of both of them somewhat before and afters. Had a pair of donor rear fenders from a pickup and cut them up to make new lips. Just had to "massage" them a bit and cut about 3" out of the middle since although the pick up fenders are close they are 3" wider total. But I figure once its all body worked and painted I will be the only one that knows.
A little more truck **** from the weekend. I got the rest of the frame stripped of most of the unwanted pieces and my crown vic 8.8 rear end out of the donor. Still have a ton of work to strip the brackets off of it and grind the tubes smooth to start on my triangulated 4 link setup.
before the torch was lit
bracketry off and 8.8 set in place
Finally snapped a pic of the drivers side roof line seem that I panel bonded together and filled the seem with and started on the first layer of glaze coat
Looks great! You are really doing some nice work and saving what most would not attempt. I am glad you found one! I will be watching. Mine is still sitting, covered up. The only thing that I have done was to finally install a steering column so that I can roll it around much easier. I am getting closer to being able to actually do some work on both my trucks, seeing yours is inspiring.
Thanks. Reason I started the thread was to keep myself motivated. Trying to do as much of the work I can now that doesn't cost me any money since I've already bought most of my body work supplies. Just getting the motivation to keep going some days isn't easy so this has been helping. Also trying to tackle small chunks instead of too much and getting overwhelmed. I'd love to do another panel after this one is done. The more I get into this build the more I like it and appreciate some of the stuff they did 60 years ago.
Build threads are helpful for some. Hopefully you'll feel obligated to update us a few times a month.
You are already at Phase 50. That's the phase where everybody that sees your truck thinks it's worth about 50 bucks and you are completely nuts for attempting it. A coat of primer on most of the truck helps a lot when you get to that place.

Curious what this bonding material, seam filler and glaze coat is. Another question is the compatibility to plastic fillers and paints.
