Hey guys I'm new here and I have a 1965 f100 custom cab. On the doors the hinges that hold the butterflies on are broke. How do I go about taking the old ones out and putting new ones in?
The vent windows? The pivot stud at the bottom edge sounds like it sheared. I bought a truck whose drivers vent window was like that.
Unfortunately, you have to dismantle a fair portion of the insides of the doors to remove the vent window frames and separate the glass frame from the weatherstrip retaining frame .
You'll have to at least move the division bar back a few inches, which means dropping the glass, remove the fuzzies, window run over the top and a few screws that hold it in place. Once it is moved away from the vent window then you can remove a couple of screws on the leading upper edge of the door and the vent window will be able to be removed.
If the paint on the truck is not something you'd want to damage I'd tape off around the opening some. Removing the fuzzies is tricky enough without damaging either them or the paint.
Otherwise, they do make reproduction vent window frames or there are some NOS available last I checked. This link should take you to one possible offering. Most of the reproduction guys sell these, too. To a certain extent they are superior to NOS, even though I'm the last guy to admit something like that. They use a better designed stud with 3 rivets holding it to the frame instead of just two rivets.
I mig welded my stud back in place. used spot welding. spot weld then cool it down, spot weld cool it down. I didn't take the glass out. put tape on glass so as not to damage it. after welded solid I took a die grinder and dressed it off. is working fine.
First and Foremost; Welcome to FTE. Decided to tag-on to this thread, not clear which item is being referred to? I have replaced the pivot arm; both at the vent window channel, and the pivot arm housing (not sure what it is referred to ) located on the vent window. Have a couple pic's of vent window disassembled and perhaps a spare pivot arm, or housing, depending upon left or right side??
