Thats about right considering that the speed limit was 55 and regular gas was about 63 cents a gallon back when these trucks were built.

Man I am loving the warmer weather lately but I am sure we will pay for it later on.

The new radio and speakers are fantastic and made a world of difference for the commute. Bluetoothed the ipod in, hit shuffle and 3 hrs of static free continuous tunes.

I ordered a new tps and tps connector for mine. Since the turbo install the shifts just don't feel right. The point broke the tab off the connector plus for at least the diesels it recommend to replace every 50 k.

Putting my list together for when we hit the junkyard.

Anyone got any recommendations on crate engines?

So Big blue's engine has probably worn bearings and rings but I don't want to sink any more money into it. I would like to find the best way to make 350-400 hp for as little as possible on pump gas.

Do any of you guys know of shops that do good work that you trust also do you think I can make my goal in 3K or less? I already have an HEI dizzy and I plan on going 4 bbl 600cfm carb. Theres a crate engine at summit I have been drooling over since I got the truck but I wonder why you guys think?

Spend lots of money. Just remember speed is money how fast do you want to go.

For that horsepower the crate maybe the way to go it may save you the long
.
I think a 600 would be to small to be effective.

Cassidy machine on Broadway the the machine work on the Cummins L10 that was in the motorhome. To check the head, deck it, magnFlux and polish it, put the rods on the Pistons and put the Pistons in the liners ( WET SLEEVED) was 6 or 7 hundred.

To answer the question of how do I get there from here the best place to ask would be the dent forum or the performance forum. You will get a better response. There are only about 10 of that are active in the GA chapter. This is a local chat. We all help were we can but I think you will get a better response from those two forums

I got a few #on your truck that was a combined. My truck is more grunt than speed demon. The turbo did move it out of slug status maybe a fast turtle. It goes fast enough for me.

so that Impala im working on, had to put it on the frame machine, and pulled the hell out of it. Turning out to be more work than its worth. But it is an all origional, single owner car. 87xxx miles on it. 283 in it. It does need the carb tuned, (I can do easily, but not getting paid to do it) and some other minor things.

But damn, my 66 Ford has 59xxx origional miles on it. they drove the **** out of the impala

Not sure what is worse, driving them like you stole them or letting them sit.

Axel,
You should get with Texxan, he seems to do everything you are looking to do.

Hey Texxan do you work on vehicles for a living by chance? You seem to be doing a lot of cool stuff. I see you have a 66 restomod which is basically what i am planning. I want my truck to reliable enough my wife could feel comfortable driving it from time to time. Do you know anything about transmissions?

hturner, ironically I joined this forum a while back and mainly was in the dent forums from the get go but I figured there has got to be other dent or blue oval folks near me so that how I ended up here. I have done some research on what I think I need to do I just don't have unlimited funds like the rest of us. I figure there is enough intelligence and knowhow on these threads that we all can share creative ways of saving greenbacks.

Axel

I fully understand. I was not trying to upset you, just there not many of us here. We still try to help each other the best we can.

The speed is money comes from racing. I am all for saving money.

The crate vs rebuild is always a big decision. In most cases it comes out cheaper to get at least a long block vs a rebuild. With the rebuild you have to figure the cost if the machine work, the kit itself and if you find a cracked head, bad block there is more money. With the crate you get a warranty.

Have you considered getting a a second engine that you could build as funds are? That way you could still drive the truck while you build the one you want.

hturner,

I am totally fine, actually I was leaning towards crate for that matter. BluePrint engines make a 306 crate that pushes 390hp for 3700 but I was hoping to curb some of that cost if I could. I really want some aluminum heads and overdrive. I am all about building an engine as I go, I just don't have much mechanic stuff besides a socket set, car jack stands, my wits and the computer. So I am trying not to get swallowed up in having to buy or rent tools for every small jobs on this truck. This is the first vehicle that I have had the courage to have such big plans for mainly because its not a rolling pile of wires, sensors and dealership hoohaw. I hope to keep it around for a long time with all the knuckle busting I have already done.

Thanks again for the insight, keep it coming guys. I am sure there will be more then ten if we start meeting up with our trucks somewhere regularly. lol

I got most of the tools and time we are about an hour apart. I don't have a shop. I do have a small concrete pad in the backyard

Have you thought about having out at the drag strips and get to know some of the Ford drivers. Another thought would be the street racers. Mustang forums could help also.

When we hit the junkyard I think we will continue for find your tranny.
