Hello. everyone, sorry its been a while since I have been on, but it looks everyone's December is starting off with a bang. So I just got Saturday but since my wife's a teacher we are waiting until the 18th for the honeymoon.

On a side note are do any of you guys live close to this guy on craigslist or know of a place to get reasonable priced transmissions and parts. I am looking for a quality AOD to put in the truck for highway gears.
AOD transmissions rebuilt

This is one of the places I have read up on which is why I really want to do this swap.

I am almost 99% sure it is same guy I used when the transmission went out in the mom in-law's GMC Envoy. He did a great job, was quick and cheaper than else around. It was about an hour and 1/2 drive one way for me. But if it is the same guy and he rebuilds them at his house and he has or had an old chevelle I would highly recommend.

Congrat ChiefM. Whereabouts are you? I live in Macon. I was wondering if I were to get one from him would he help me install in big Blue. But I need to see if the cost of gas in the truck isn't going to eat away all the savings.

I live near Rome GA.
I pulled the transmission myself and took it to him and then picked it up when it was finished. I am cheap and saved the cost of pull and replace labor.

I want to be cheap to. But I have never done a transmission before so I am wondering if I would lose the bulk of the savings in buying tools.

These old trucks are pretty simple to work on, a basic standard socket set, wrench set and basic hand tools should be more than enough to pull it out. The only thing is maybe a transmission jack. I don used one't use one but I have dropped a few transmissions in my time.

Axel

When do you plan on doing it? I putting a list together of people that want to hit a junkyard in Griffin that got a bunch of Ford pickups planning sometime in Jan after Chief gets settled back down from the baby.

I also know some one that can build it. We should be able to pull, rebuild and reinstalling a day.

Here the additional parts I would do at the same time

Rear main seal
U joints and center bearing if you have one
If they are not in the kit front pump seal and output shaft seal

My friend has shop. The only labor would be what he would charge you to build it. He gets his kits from TPU in Atlanta . We would to goup an get it. He will not build one without a torque converter.

Any time after this month.

That sounds awesome!

I have got a lot going on this month, moving to a new home for two of us, consolidating two apts into one house, honeymoon, and my birthday. So next month or later would be best!

My wife is from griffin and might be an excuse to go. I would like to do it before it gets hot. The truck runs better in the cold then the heat. Its got a 3.73 rear gear thats 28 spline. I would like to do a third member swap too but I don't know yet. Right now, as it sits if I take big blue on 75 I literally can watch the needle go down in 30 mins of highway driving. I believe thats because of high revs.
