Block heater

Hi My block Heater quit working last night.wondering if I could put in a external heater that hooks into the heater hose for a temporary fix until I can get a new Block Heater ordered and get to Town to pick it up. ( 50 miles 1 way) Thanks for your input.

Yes you can. The cords go bad on the block heaters more often than the heater. Cords are sold seperately.

I've also heard that putting a work light (100w) under the hood does enough to take the chill off. Seemed to work ok when I tried it a few years ago. Obviously the block heater is a better choice, at something like 1000 watts.

There is a good chance it's the block heater cord, I would definitely check that first as it's a cheap and easy fix.

Napa had the cord in stock for me, like $16.

'Course, it still didn't work for me :\ I'll have to do some more troubleshooting.

If the cord didnt fix it it must be the heater, ASSuming you are plugging into a good outlet and extension cord. It would be worth the extra money for a tank heater in the heater hose over draining the block IMO.
