How Long for Block Heater

I have a 97 PSD with a block heater and I was just curious as to how long it should take for the block heater to warm up the engine in about 10-20* F weather. It's parked outside as well.

After about 3 hours it isn't going to get any hotter.

AT -20 or colder, you better have it plugged in all night. And you really need an extra circ. heater for colder than that anyway as the block heater doesnt quite do it.

Anything warmer and 3 to 4 hours works.
