I've had this light on since I got it and my scan gauge won't pick it up. Dealer wants $100 to tell me what it is. I know it's a longshot but the previous owner said he took it to Ford and he remembered the dealer telling him it was a "pto" "hto" sensor or something similar. He cannot remember. Truck runs good but has light on it.
Thought I would ask in case you guys might have an idea.
What happens when you hook up your scan gauge? Does it show it's "connecting" to the PCM? Does it power up?
Stewart
Yes, it power up. It also connects. It seems to work when I've used it. For mpg, average mpg, but haven't tested more that. Good question because it should read the codes. It just says none found. Be interesting to know if anyone else has SGII and it works.
J1850 PWM, but not all readers can "listen in" on our non-OBDII vehicles. There should be at least one code, even if it's a phantom. I have AutoEnginuity for troubleshooting and Torque Pro for daily monitoring. Initial cost for hardware and/or software might exceed the cost of a single read by the dealership, but it pays you back in a big way - once you have it.

Still trying to diagnose this CEL without a scan tool. I know it's a long shot but I thought I'd give a couple symtoms:
1. Romps just a little when temp down around 50 deg F. Using 15w40 for now.
2. It has no high idle at start up. It stay around 700 rpm when I crank up.
3. However, it seems to want to idle up because every few seconds it will surge up about 100 rpm.
4. No smoke on start up.
5. Truck runs fine on the road.
6. Other than occasional romp, it starts in about 1 to 2 seconds. Very quick.
Keep in mind, the fuel bowl looked like chocolate milk when I changed it. Probably still got some bad fuel and I'm sure the tank is a mess.
