Is there a resource available to tell the correct placement of informational decals, like the jacking point info, maintenance schedule, emissions info etc. after painting, or if they were obliterated in the first place? I restore old tractors too and there are books available that show correct decal placement from old factory records, etc. for the restorer. Anything like that for Ford trucks? Brian
No, I've just got a regular Custom. Is there also a difference in whether or not decals were applied depending on whether it is a Custom/Ranger/XLT (excluding option differences)?
The LMC catalog has a lot of decals, more than I remember seeing on these trucks when they were new. Some are intuitive, like the fan warning. Some others that aren't are:
Maintenance schedule (where exactly on the glovebox door?)
Jack Instructions
Locking hubs
Seat belt (says it's for the window -- but where?)
Emissions
This might be good info to post on your Tech Tips sticky after you look it up once.
Well first (mil1ion) was right about the seat belt decal location. Now for the some more.
Jack instructions: glove box door inside centered but one inch from front edge.
Emissions: I've seen them post on hood along right side under hood. where the
inner frame work of hood molds over. But mine is located on wheel well frame just infront of windshield wiper fluid box.
Maintenance: Found also in two locations in glove box all the way to right and under hood just infront of the computer. To me the computer location seems wrong hard to read decal there.
locking hubs. Sorry have not seen one at all. here with my three trucks or the ones at my families junk yard. and there are (8) 70-79 ford trucks out there.
Alot depends on the year and engine. My emission on the 79 is on the hood on the right side. My 78 is directly on the motor. Both have the the "caution fan" on the shroud. Jacking instruction in the glove box as mentioned. I don't remember the hubs or maintence, but I'll look this week.
The yellow coolant level sticker is on the radiator support cocked to the left of the radiator in my 1977 F150 Custom explorer, but my dad's 1977 F150 Custon explorer was in the same location, but on the driver's side. You could see it with the hood open looked at the the front of the truck.
I know if your going to get certain decals like decals for the air cleaner, Jeffs Bronco Graveyard has a lot of them...
They also have many emission decals, as well as the jacking instruction decals that are on the back side of the GloveBox.
They may have some somebody is looking for, check it out!

I got one for the coil, and put it on after a run, and the coil was warm from the engine heat, and it seemed to really make it stick well. So the next day I went out again, and came back and popped the hood and the sticker was gone!
So I am not real wild about spending money on stickers that dont make it run any better, just to blow off in a single run. However, I like to see those kind of touches on a restoration project.
Good tip. I will try putting them on before it gets to hot and see what happens. I agree that would make me a bit hot if they all fell off.
I have built a few trucks were i did not worry about anything but function, but on this one i desided to make one that was pretty much factory correct and something to show and drive. (Which i still question my sanity because of the $$$), but I still have the mud toy which i can't seam to get out of my system, so I hope Im safe there.
