we have a 62 galaxie 500 xl b code but engine casting numbers are 6015-h and c3ae is it a 406

Well since it's a 62 car, it shouldn't have a C3 block if it's the original engine. Unless it was a very late 62, then it possibly could. Only sure way to tell what many FE's are is to take them apart.
