Just curious:

</o>There are two numbers cast into the engine block on my 1973 F100. The numbers are semi-visible in the image below; they’re just above the PS pump. The numbers are 16 (or 18) on top of 352. What do these numbers mean? The PO told me that it's a 390, but whatever it is, I know that the engine is not the original engine to this truck.
on my 460 the actual engine code was up underneath the starter in a very difficult to reach place. Had to stick my phone up there and just snap pictures till i got a good one. The 360s and 390s thermostat housing will be mounted to the front of the engine shooting straight toward the radiator if that helps.
Those casting numbers are more or less meaningless.
It just means 352 casting form from either DIF or CF foundries. When MCC took over in 72 they used an updated casting with a reverse "105"
If your block has a casting number it would be located on the passenger side of the block either right below the cylinder head or along the pan rail. This casting is also meaningless for FE engines.
The date code is located right under the oil filter adapter.
