I guess I should have been more clear. Ooops

Its “Not” revving high while traveling at 30/35 mph. It’s like the engine is working hard to get it to go, as a result the engine temp is heating up as if I have a load or towing up a grade. The engine will rev high in park/neutral.

What color is the trans fluid? Red, brown, or black? Does it have a burnt odor?

Slightly Reddish brown more red then brown, like it was dirty and needed to be changed. No burnt smell.

I do not think you should have 2 digit codes with a 1990 f-series 460 with a E4OD.
So it sounds to me like you have the wrong PCM in the truck.
What is the numbers you have on your PCM?
See below.
What is the Calibration code on your drivers door post?
See Below.

The post fix and prefix of your 12A650 number.

That’s a bit odd to me, from what I understood pre ‘95 is OBD1 and those have 2 digit codes? I don’t use a scanner, I jump the two wires and do KOEO method (maybe I should go buy a scanner, I doubt it will make a difference) . I have been using these 2 digit codes for several years and they have helped in finding a problems.

The ECU / PCM / Computer are all the same Right? The Computer in the truck IS a Stock Ford one, which is 30yrs old...

Here is what I have...

That is the right PCM for that Calibration code.
It just that all the other 1989 and newer trucks an F53 RVs that I have seen with a 460 & E4OD had three digit codes.

Any other ideas? What about the Solenoid pack?

How would I be able to tell or test to see if my ECU/PCM is going out? I have read that a symptom is having erratic idling (higher then normal/sticking), running a little rough?

I would look at the Solenoid pack connector wiring harness plug as it has been known to give problems.
Just take the shell off of it and check the wires. It would be obvious if wires going into the plug are bad.

So an update, Limp Mode for my truck was not caused by the trans. The roll pin holding the gear on the spindle to the distributor snapped and was the whole cause to my problem and what sent it into limp mode. Wouldn’t have found it until it completely stopped running.

Thank you both for your help.

Sounds like a tight clutch pack, or torque converter stator problem.
