My parents have a neighbor who's moving and wants to sell his truck. It's a 2004 F350 4X4 CC SWB Lariat with the 6.0. I'm told it has 175K miles on it and is in real good shape. Supposedly he's taken care of it and not towed much. He had the head studs replaced with aftermarket ones early on. His didn't fail, he just did it as a PM thing I guess because he was worried it would happen to him. I'm told it's all stock. He's thinking of selling it for $9K-$11K. I've had a 2006 6.0 and never had issues, it was the best truck I ever had. I'm going to look at it today. Does anyone on here think this is a good buy based on the info above? What other issues are these early model 6.0's known for and what should i be on the look-out for? I know diesels can last a very long time but how does 175K miles look? Is it even broken-in yet? How much more should I realistically expect with regular maintenance and small upgrades like intake & exhaust (no re-programming)? Any extra help is gratefully appreciated.

Yes its broken in, HPOP is the early non-commonized issue.
I looked at it and it's in good shape. Some rust on frame, axles, etc. But it's just surface and that's to be expected i guess being that "old". It's actually an F250. It's got the FX4 package and all the shocks are Rancho (can't be original since boots & bushings look good). But the right front one is a regular looking shock. Monroe or Gabriel it looks like. Is this going to be an issue? Also, my '06 had coil springs up front and this has leafs. Is this a plus or minus and how will the ride differ? Owner wasn't there so I couldn't start it. Factory exhaust so that leads me to believe there's no mods under the hood. Thoughts?
I have had several earlier Ford trucks over the years, most of em with tough and proven leaf spring/twin I beam up front (4x2) and I loved them all BUT the front coils set up is an improvement in ride, and turning radius especially if you want to run a wider tire. I have had the experience of getting out of one and straight in the other and you could tell in a 1/4 mile without looking which one you're in.
