Im thinking about 2in superflex from JBG, or 2in ranchos from napa. Any suggestions?
I want to run 8-10in travel shocks to give me plenty off travel. Im looking along the lines of bilstein 5100's, 5150's or 7100's.
What will handle the abuse and the weight of a super cab truck and also have a decent life expectancy in terms of the springs and shocks? Without being way to rough and bouncy. What valving 400/100, 360/80
I any one running 5100's hows the valving? They are alot cheaper, and i dont wanna spend way to much on 7100's unless thats the only way to get the performance i want. I just dont have experiance with the 5100's, or 5150's, so i dont know how they will run under a full size truck.
they sell 2" superflex springs? Shortest Ive seen were 4".
anyway...get the superflex springs. Very flexy and Im sure better than anything sold through napa which are probably repackaged Rough Countrys at best.
the 5150s have the little piggy back resivoir correct? Thats what Im looking at for my truck. From what Ive read they are very good for the price. Obviously the fade on the 7100s is much much slower but its also twice the money iirc.
if i am remembering right, 5100's are there bottom rung el cheapo's and i've had two sets. with both sets the bushings took a crap on me with in a few thousand miles and torched the shocks, so i never really got a feel for them. i assume the bushings are just junk, plain and simple, because one set was installed by a shop before i bought the truck
I havn't seen any superflex springs under 4 either. I think he is thinking of superlift springs. JBG sells those in a 2" flavor. I have the 5125's in the rear and 5150's front. I like them so far.
Yall are right, JBG has the superlift 2in's and 4in's. Im starting to think about going with 4in possibly. Where is a good place to get the super flex springs? How are the superlift springs? They seem to have a really high spring rate?
In terms of shocks, the 5100's are auto valving, which i dont paticually like. and i like the idea of having the piggy back reservoir on the 5150's to help keep fade to a minimum. What valving are yall running in the 5150's?
My brother runs 7100's on his landrover disco and they are awesome. But that is too much money.
Thanks for the advice so far, any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
They have super flex 5.5in front coils and 4in rear leafs for 80-96 trucks. But im actually looking more at super lift 4in. They have alot better spring rate then the 2in super lift coils. The 2in is 565lbs/in and the 4in is 466lbs/in. Super flex's seem to hover around 300lbs/in which im afraid might be too soft for a truck with varying loads, probably a winch and bumper, dual batt. and ect in the future.
Im thinking 4in superlifts, 10in 5150's, superlift 4in center pivot drop bracket and extended radius arms(both i got from a junkyard bronco), 4in drop pitman arm.
Now you got me second guessing the super lifts. I have been running 1-ton 460 coils and they are so rough its not funny any more. They beat me to death every day and i can drive 500miles a day easily. Im ready for anything with a better ride.
Ya, a bumper + winch + add a batt. could easily end up be 250-300lbs or more. I just dont want to get a nice set up, then have it sag out when i finally build a bumper.
Any opinions on running 7100's up front and 5150 out back? the 5150s dont have stiff enough valving to run up front. They suggest 360 for a single front shock on a full size and the 5150s max out at 255.
Get 4" superflex springs. If they sag a little you'll still have 2.5-3" which is still more than you originally planned for and a much better performing spring than anything else out there off the shelf.
7100s are damn good shocks from what Ive read. I just cant justify $180-200 for one shock.
Ya, thats what im thinking. Even if i only end up with 2.5 that is still better then 1.5 or 2 at the max, with superlift.
i agree, i cant spend $200 on each shock either. Thats why im interested in those who are running 5100's, and 5150's. They are half the price and would probably work for what i do, which is mostly on road. I just dont wanna end up with them fading fast because of the weight of the truck then wishing i had gone with 7100's.
Where is a good supplier for superflex? I'v looked on JBG, but they only have 5.5in, but they do have super flex for older 70's broncos, but they would be way to soft.
Thanks for the suggestions and please keep them coming.
Get the 4" superflex for 78/79 Bronco, should be plenty for your truck. If you have to you can move the upper coil buckets up/down to compensate for extra weight or it being too talll. Though, I'm not sure if the TTB springs and the older style springs are the same height wise?
