Question Headlight dash **** comes off. Need fix.

When I pull out the light switch **** it comes off
without holding the shaft of the switch,
so I have to add pressure and go slow to get the lights
to pull out/come on.
So, I'm tired of the dance and want to fix it. Ideas?

Thanks

I drilled a small hole, and used an Allen bolt as a set screw.

Take a small pick and hook it on the spring clip inside the ****. Pull it out slightly. Pull on just the closest part of the clip. The idea is to make the two holes of the spring clip that the rod goes through smaller by changing the angle they are at to each other.

I get it, I have tried to squeeze them together to increase the grip but it just loosens up

to make V into v.

Mine was just like that and I got tired of that dance too, and of it falling off over bumps. I don't quite remember what I did but I know it involved heat. I'm pretty sure I took a heat gun to the metal shaft and once it was nice and hot, but not hot enough to damage the switch internals, I mashed the **** onto it good and hard so that the shaft melted it's way into the switch. Little f***er ain't come off since... and I am not known to be gentle with things.

There's a guy in the '80-'86 forum making billet wiper and light ***** with a setscrew.
They are pretty nice and less than new ***** from LMC when you include their shipping.

i replaced mine with this back in 2011;
Amazon.com: Keep It Clean 121430 Billet Headlight Switch **** for #HDLSW: Automotive Amazon.com: Keep It Clean 121430 Billet Headlight Switch **** for #HDLSW: Automotive

i dunno about that recent review.when i bought it (exact same one,as amazon shows) everything was included.the ****,the shaft and set screw.
but i dunno why he had such an issue.they sell little set screws in the bins at hardware stores.so his got lost i guess but sounds like he gave up rather than put 5 mins of effort in it lmao.

the only complaint i have with it,is it just a tad bit on the small side to match the hole....but it's very slight issue and it works very good.you can't beat non plastic and a set screw.the way they should of been made.i might even find a pic....................yup.well that was easy to find-

it's pretty universal.im sure amazon/ebay and just the aftermarket in general (sold in all kinds of places.local and online) have loads and loads of options for switch *****.probably silly fun skull ones, glow in the dark ones, lighted up ones etc.etc.etc.google to see what you can find.that's how i found mine.

I get it now. I didnt before. I see if you pull the "lip" or nearest part of the clip, it will make the hole smaller. Thinking of grooving the rod too.

I just found a volume **** off a dead stereo
or guitar amp, with a set screw.

I think it even goes up to '11'.

I bent out the bottom lip of the clip inside the ****, so as to make the hole the shaft goes through angled and therefore smaller. This worked.
