ok so with my 1990 f150, ive gone through two headunits since i owned it. the origional, and now the one that is in it is going to. i cant seem to find anywhere that has a headunit that will fit correctly and look good. id perfer it to be a new style headunit with aux ports, and that will be "simple" to install. does anybody know of anywhere that i could buy one?
or any other number of sites and pick out what you like.
I used to like Pioneer, but I don't like any of their recent stuff.. Not sure what brand I'll migrate to yet.
Both companies will give you the install accessories for free.. The dash kit if required, and the wiring harness. I personally use sonic to buy, crutchfield to shop.
Our trucks are a basic single DIN style stereo, meaning a vast majority of the aftermarket stuff fits our trucks with no issue. Aesthetics are a personal choice, but nearly anything you see on a shelf will fit just fine.
There are two ways to mount the stereo. The first is with a kit, which will bolt the unit to the stock location. The other way is to skip the adapter and mount the unit directly to the trim bezel by cramming the basket that comes with the stereo into it. With the latest stereo, I went with the latter and am a fan because it pushes the stereo a bit farther out and alleviates clearance issues between the stereo trim piece and the bezel.
My latest stereo is a Pioneer. Cost about $100 and works great. Has Bluetooth, which I use to connect in lieu of the aux port (has that, too). Bought it on Amazon. Very happy with it. No CD player, but since all I do is stream from my phone, I don't need it.
