While I was working on the truck yesterday I got to wondering how many years should the wiring harness last? I'm a electrician by trade and I know after years and years insulation on wires gets brittle. So i was wondering how long the injector wiring harness to idm should last or how long the PCM wiring should last?
Not sure on under the hood but a wire insulation exposed to uv rays (the sun) can only last a year where I live. My truck has 800k plus and the wires still look good
I think it depends on what it is exposed too. My truck is an 01 with 260k miles on it and I have no wiring harness issues.
On these trucks, a couple of the common wire harness problems are the UVCH and ICP pigtail. This is obviously due to oil contamination.
The IDM and PCM wiring should last a very long time. It is pretty well protected from anything that may damage it. I have seen 95 trucks with wiring harnesses in perfect condition, showing that it is good for at least 20 years.
