I Have an '85 F250 6.9L and a C6. I bough the truck from the original owners daughter. The original owner really hacked the wiring harness, adding in lots of extra electronics that are no longer there. I have pulled out about 200 feet of unused wiring, and there is still more to come. I have been searching for a replacement harness just so I could start fresh and rewire the whole truck, but am having a hard time finding one made for the truck. I have checked with, and emailed both Centech and Painless, and neither one of them have any options for me. The truck is basically stock with the exception of a Gear Vendor, heated seats, and the little electric motors for the lumbar pump. (I put buckets out of a 97 F350). It has manual window and door locks, but would eventually like to add power windows and door locks.
Anyone have any leads on a replacement wiring harness for this?
No one has stepped up and made a new harness for these trucks. I try to discourage people from using the universal harnesses, you just end up with a mess and no wiring diagram unless you make your own. The universal harnesses end up with splices all over the place to splice in the original connectors so they plug into the components. The only option I know of is to pull it out and rehab it yourself, repairing any bad spots with soldering and shrink tubing and re-taping it.
I'm rewiring my 84 because most of my wires were crispy instead of wiggly. I found an 82 and an 86 in junkyards and pulled their harnesses. Its pretty fast to get one out. I then laid all three harness out in my garage and tried to pick the best wire of the 3 for each circuit to piece together one good harness. I just got it in, but haven't tested all the circuits yet.
I looked at the universal kits, but like Franklin said, I thought I would have to splice their new wires into my old sockets anyway since some of the socket

s or pigtails aren't available or kind of expensive. I rationalized that a new wire spliced to the old wire is no better than the old wire

You are correct. And most of your problems with the harness will be with the connectors, which you have to re-use also.
There is something to be said for staying factory as far as the wiring is concerned. You can do a one-off wiring job, but it takes a lot of time to document what you are doing and make a "as built" diagram. Most people don't take the time to do it, which works ok till something goes wrong later on.
Thank you guys for the response. I think I will just have to pull my harness out and rebuild what’s there. I like the idea of using 3 harnesses to make one, but we don’t have any good wrecking yards around here to get a new harness out of 😢
