Installing Y pipe

Over the weekend I replaced the passenger side up pipe with one that doesn't have a spot for the EGR cooler. After putting the turbo back in it has a pretty bad exhaust leak. Sounds like it is on the drivers side somewhere near the Y pipe. When replacing the passenger up pipe I didn't loosen any manifold bolts or anything and I am thinking that the Y pipe is out of alignment with the turbo. What is the proper procedure to loosen everything up and get it aligned on the turbo? My guess is remove turbo, loosen drivers side manifold, loosen passenger side manifold, loosen passenger up pipe and tighten it again now that everything isn't under tension, install turbo and clamp to Y pipe, tighten manifolds. Is that the right idea?

The surest way is:

Lots of different sequences. Most of the successful ones entail tightening the exhaust manifold up pipes and exhaust to CAT last.

Ayup. Loosen everything, tighten the turbo flange first.

We got it by tightening the y pipe first then up pipes then down pipe then turbo mounting bolts. Thanks for your help!

which y pipe are you guys using? I ordered the MBRP, but now I am finding mixed reviews and wondering if I should cancel the order.

a couple were saying the driver side bellow hits the heat shield and possibly needs a slight more twist, also the flange is a cheap stamped piece of steel, not real heavy duty.

The MBRP is cheap crap. Superduty Service has a couple videos showing it, I myself had to re-configure one for a guy as the alignment was way off.

Biggest issue is thin flanges and mis-alignment.
