I went with a Viper SmartStart. Have the app on my phone and I can start my 2014 F250 XLT from anywhere with it.
Love it for my part time truck driving job during the winter months. Just before I leave my last destination to park the delivery truck, I start my pickup from about 8 miles away and it's warmed up when I get to it.
Ford has the cellphone capabilities also. You can add a module to the VSS system and start the truck from any place in the world with cell phone signal. You can also lock and unlock the truck from any place in the world with a cell signal. I have this on my 2015 along with the Ford bi-directional remote fobs that have well over 1000ft range. I have approx $425 in the complete system and it is ALL plug and play. Took me about 20 minutes to install and a trip to dealer to activate the system which they did not charge to do.

That's good to know. I'm thinking I may go this route.

You don't happen to have a parts list for this do you? I have a 2015 XL and would love to add the remote start to it. Local dealers are cluless that it exists and I don't mind putting in a little sweat equity. Having the fobs would be a bonus to the cell phone app. Thanks for any help!

With an XL you do have power locks and remote keyless entry (RKE) right? I have to ask since it's an XL, as those are the requirements to use the Ford OEM remote start kits.
Having said that, here's the parts list for Remote Access:
- Base Security/Control Module: DL3Z19A361A
- Remote Access Module: DL3Z19A390B
Also REQUIRED parts (none of the remote start functions will work without these items installed):
Or if you would rather have Bi-Directional remote start:
- Fob (one in the box, you can add more): DL3Z15K601A
.
Curtis,
There is another bi-directional fob. It doesn't have the Panic Button. I have not been able to find a part number for it. It came with my 2016 Fusion and you can find them on eBay. There is also a model with Subaru on it. Both have the same FCC-ID ELVATRKC.

Sounds like they're in the same neighborhood price wise. Just had the same SmartStart system that's in my F250 installed in a 2003 Cadillac I bought this fall. $400 installed. You're fortunate in that the dealer didn't charge you to activate. The local Ford store here charged me for a reflash for a factory trailer brake controller that I bought and installed myself. After I'd purchased the truck from them. They lost out on the next sale because I went 60 miles away to another store. But I digress.
As stated in the quote, SmartStart will also lock/unlock the vehicles as well as text me if an alarm is activated on the either vehicle.
One thing to note: I do have to pay a yearly subscription fee to use the SmartStart app on my iPhone. Maybe Ford doesn't have a charge for this, so that could be a definite advantage if they don't.

No advantage, the Ford Remote App requires a $50 yearly fee.

Any idea what the Ford part number is?
Thanks
No idea what part number that one is. None of those here at the warehouse either.
I do have power locks and windows. Thank you for the part numbers!
In addition to the power locks and windows, you must have the remote door lock/unlock feature or you can't upgrade to the "plug and play" remote start system. Don't forget to look to see if you have the hood switch. It's standard on the XLT and up, but not on the XL models unless they have the remote lock/unlock capability.
I installed (the dealer did the work) on my 2013 XLT with 6.2. I wound up with 4 keys, two original without the start button and two that came with the kit. Total cost was less then buying two extra keys, so for me it was a "no brainer". Just the cost to rekey (if you lose one key and can't do it in your driveway) would almost pay for the Ford remote start "basic" system... Good Luck !!!
Hey, I bought a prestige remote starter for my 2003 F250 6.0 yesterday. I wired the main 8 pin power harness, and wanted to see if you know what wires are required for basic functionality. I want to be able to lock/unlock from the new keyfob(s). And obviously remote start capability. As soon as I dug into the box, I realized I had just bit off more than I could chew....never had done this before. Any tips, diagrams, anything that you have to say would probably help.

Can start truck from key fob. Also has smart phone app that allows me to start it remotely from anywhere.
App also allows me to track vehicle's current location, and keep tabs on whoever is driving - as far as speed, acceleration, braking, hard turns - all parameters that I can set in advance. You can also set up protection areas so the system will flag you with a phone text message whenever the vehicle leaves a predefined area (home, work, etc.). Also will call you if vehicle is ever moved with out starting the engine (ie. towed or stolen).
Bought mine through my Ford Dealer - so it's warrantied for 3/36 with the rest of the truck.
