Here is the latest. They did find one of the cardboard disc from the top of a Motorcraft PM22A fuel treatment in the sending unit. It would restrict the fuel pick up tube off and on.
A word of warning. The sending unit and the tank had been inspected twice without finding the issue. The tech has to be looking to find it. Had the truck back five days and all seems good. I hope that is the issue.

I guess this was not as unusual as I thought! As you mentioned, this had to be scrutinized carefully to find. Glad to hear this is resolved but keeping my fingers crossed for you as well.
