OK Dumb question. Had my 2105 since December and I haven't figured this out yet.
Trying to determine how to tell when your head lights are on during the day. With the automatic switch, the head lights will turn on when its raining and other low light situations, but I can't tell if they are on or not.
At night, when the lights are on, the highlight rings are on around the A/C temp ***** and volume ***** on the center console.
Is there a dash indicator that shows the lights are on regardless of the situation?
I don't believe Ive ever seen a indicator (like on some foreign cars).
If you have rain sensing headlights, then they turn on whenever you turn on your wipers. Otherwise, AUTO setting thens them on when the dash sensor isn't exposed to light. Keeps them on for about 5 seconds after. (Like when you drive under an overpass)
Not sure of the model you drive, but if you have fogs turn them on and there will be an amber light on the headlight switch telling you when they're on. This is how I determine the status of the headlights.
My Focus has a autolamps with a headlight indicator that lights up on the dash when they activate. I have to admit, it's a nice feature, especially on the newer cars where the dash lights are always on. It also has a foglamp indicator when you activate those. I'm sure it being designed as a world car has a lot to do with it...
Why do you care? Set it to Auto, and don't think about it again!
We have a law in Virginia that states your headlights have to be on when its raining, that's the short answer.
If its during the day and no real low light, I have no way of knowing if the lights are on or off unless I see the reflection on the car in front of me.
My lights come on automatically when I turn on my wipers - which I tend to do when it rains - lol. I too leave my fogs turned on and use the indicator for them to tell when the lights have come on automatically - whether due to ambient light, or the wipers being used.

Gotcha. Wasn't aware of that requirement in that State.

To be honest I didn't realize the lights came on with the wipers, learn something new...
I like the fog light idea, I'll give that a shot.
It would still be easier if they would just put an indicator in the gauge cluster, my wife has it on her Mercedes.
Easy fix, I took mine to the dealer and had them activate the daytime running lights, so mine are on all the time.
me too..
had the oil changed last week. went to the movies, came out in the dark,
and the lights came on just like normal.. but the guage pod was bright!..
didn't figure it out til almost home, when I tried to turn on my light bar..
(with the brights). wouldn't stay on!.. WT?! they had turned my lights off (from auto).
Me either. Unnecessary wear on the bulbs that ultimately shortens their lifespan.Do all the newer trucks do that? I've never noticed if mine does that.
I couldn't say whether all trims do this, but with my heads in auto, they come on when I turn on my wipers. I believe I have seen them come on when the heads were switched off, but the wipers were switched on, but I haven't messed with it in a while. The way I figured it out at all, was wondering why my lights were reflecting off of the vehicle in front of me one evening while driving to work in drizzle and sitting at a traffic light.
