I just wonder was the tranny acting up orginally because of the alternator? Is that why it shut off just driving down the highway?? If so why wont it go into gear now...??
If there is no power to any of the solenoids the trans will go to fifth (1:1 ratio) gear. It will engage and the truck will move, but it will be really sssslllloooowwww to get rolling and it will never shift.
The RPM change when you try to put it in gear is because the engine idle speed changes when the PCM sees the TRS (Transmission Range Sensor) change from park to any gear.
I don't know what's wrong here, but my wild guess is that one or more solenoids was damaged by low voltage.
I know how to get in there and get at then.
I don't how the best way to check them
Mark would be the one to answer that.
One thing is if you can test then with a meter then you may be
able to do that from the transmission harness connector. Your
going to need a pinout of that plug and a back-probe tip probe so
you don't open any pin sockets up by sticking the probe tip in.
I'll have to get my old PC running so I can get you a diagram to
work from for the pin assignments for that plug.
To get at then you drain the fluid and then drop the pan.
Once the pan is out of the way you remove the filter ( watch out)
it holds quite a bit of fluid. Also make sure that you use a plastic
tool to pull the rubber seal out of the hole the filter neck goes into.
They have a habit of coming off when you pull the filter out.
Okay that sounds good. Just an update I checked all plugs and grounds today that I could get too and still nothing. And FYI I noticed that d,n,1,2,3 does nothing to the rpm, reverse does change rpm alil but has no throttle response. If you could get me that diagram that would be great and u will get to checking them
It will be later tonight. Win 7 had been being a PIG and I can't get
the PDF creation tool I use to work on 7 at all. So I will put the XP
system back on the shelf so I can make this work.
I'm not sure. I will check that as soon as I get home.
O.k. IDS you can but that don't help you.
If Autoenginuity does than this will show you have communication if you're able to activate solinoids and you hear them click (while truck is not running).
I'm wondering if running it with dead batteries and bad alternator fried the tcm/pcm. I know with low voltage and they'll do crazy things.
