Thinking that it would sure be nice to not have to consume massive quantities of LP Gas to get my showers every day, I bought the Camco Hybrid electric heater kit and installed it today..
First I had to wire in a 110v outlet in the basement. Easy stuff as I had a junction box within a couple of feet of where I wanted the outlet.
I'll install the outlet in the basement wall once I reinstall that.
Then installed the thermostat on the side of the tank
Then it was time to pull the plug with anode rod out the bottom of the water heater and drain it. Installed the 425 watt heater rod, ran the wiring and installed the switch..
I filled the system with water from my hose and hit the switch...
No smoke! Good....
It slowly started heating..
3 hours later - on 110v only - I had piping hot water in the camper...
I am a happy man...
Do you plan on powering it while plugged in at the campground? I see your outlet is labeled inverter circuit, would batteries in the camper keep this thing going during the day while you're on the road?
It's the start of a beautiful Sunday morning here in God's county!!
Fresh hot coffee with Italian Sweet Cream (optional of course), blueberry bagels and warm Danish if you're hungry...
It's all on the counter - come gitcha some and have a seat on the veranda and enjoy the day..
Thanks Tom...
That was actually the only 110v circuit I could find in the basement. Everything else was buried in the control center and run up the walls into the ceiling.
At under 4 amps draw, I could run it off the inverter, but won't since the inverter is only a 1,000 watt unit.
I do plan on running the electric water heater whenever possible..
I wasn't ready to buy today, but they pitched me a really impressive deal. $2,000 higher than KBB says my Prius is worth, and they beat TrueCar on the sale price by about $1,000. Will be definitely thinking about this in the coming days.
THIS is the truck. Could be mine for $37,619. I think I have a $750 coupon from Ford they don't know about as well.
