You might never know the reason for it happening beyond the tube being warped. I bought my flange on ebay. As far as a 'reason', I've heard that dozens of times from people. "Your truck burned up for a 'reason'". I'm getting tired of hearing it to be truthful about it. I'm 65 now and I honestly thought that I had my pickup done except for small things that are for sure to happen, like what your going thru. If it wasn't for these wonderful guys helping me get back to where I was at, I would be starting all over again. The game is on in a couple hours !!!! Good Luck
I am excited for you Glenn and to see this go down. You are right. It's why I love this forum. I've made some good friends across the country I would have never know otherwise.

Trust me, weve all been there!
I hear you JP. It's one reason I love this forum so much is the support of guys who have been there. Wow, three times? That would do me in for a week or two LOL
That thermostat housing is a POS on our trucks. Built to light for sure. I had a constant drip from that thing. Put the flange on and no problems since.
If you don't have the flange, just don't tighten them bolts much at all after they hit the oring. And make sure you tighten them evenly. Don't tighten one and then move to the next. Half a turn on one, then the next, etc. I put a little grease on my orings.

Thanks Darin. I finally got that SOB to quit leaking this morning. I did pretty much the procedure you stated above and was just very careful. When I first started up it was a slow drip and then I just drove it and figured I would deal with it, but it stopped leaking after I got up to temperature and it's been dry all day so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I just found out about the flange that is a leak fix for our trucks. I will be ordering one tomorrow for sure. Other than this ridiculous debacle that happened last four days with the water pump, the truck is been running like it's new and I am extremely pleased with it.
Glad to hear ya got it Byron, and you are happy with it!
Darin, I meant to ask you if you had pretty good luck with the flange? It is either that or I was looking at the billet piece with the new boss on Dieselsite, but it's a $100 more than the flange fix. Just wondering...thanks. This water pump/Tstat leak had me starting to doubt my ability to turn a wrench LOL
I didn't have any issues with the flange. I put it on and never had another leak. You won't have the problem of distorting the housing with that. Evenly tighten the bolts like I mentioned above, and you should be fine.
Don't let it bring you down man, sometimes the little things can be the biggest pita!
when i pulled my motor to fix some stuff, once everything was done and the motor was in the tstat housing was leaking pretty bad and so i drained all my coolant to r&r, and it of course ran through my old rusty azz coresupport and so it was bad since it had metal flakes all through it so i had to buy new coolant AGAIN
Thanks for all of the encouragement guys. It really has helped! I just wanted to give an update after all of my whining this past week. We left the Craphole that is the Texas coast this morning in tow to the Hill Country for the Fall while we help out my wife's dad with some house stuff. I finally, FINALLY got the leak to stop on ym G-d forsaken Tstat housing. After all of the work Travis and myself did, I am extremely pleased with my truck. Even the wife has noticed a huge difference in how it tows and drives empty. It's getting better mpg towing as well as empty. Here are the numbers after today's 4 hour trip. I'll do average and then highest seen while pushing grades or whatever.
EOTs-- 215* 225*
Coolant-- stayed right just below the "N", highest was just at the "R"
EGTs--950* 1275* could maintain power withfoot management
Trans--155* 170*
MPGs--9.3
Speed-- 68mph 75mph
NO LEAKS!! Not one drop of cooalnt, oil, or diesel. I did find a finger tight oil dipstick pan nut and was able to tighten it down quite a bit. Oil was really starting to come out of there after we did the injectors, but a big pair of channel locks fixed that.
I think that's it. I am really seeing the work pay off. It's been a long couple of weeks with IC install and the other mods, but this water pump just about kicked my butt LOL. It's all been worth it!!
After reading Glenn's thread and getting the support here from you guys, I am just so stoked to be a part of this. I feel privileged. Thanks again!
Sorry you have been having problems. I tried calling but no answer or call back
The last few days I have missed a lot
Glad you are back on track tho buddy!

Thanks brothah! I know you have been way focused, so no worries. I tried calling you back when I saw one missed call and it went straight to VM. I had really poor reception where we were these last few days, but now we are much better. Oh, one thing I forgot. It feels like a Mustang getting into traffic or passing people, even with my trailer hooked to it!! It's frickin' insane!! You were right....smiles all the way!
how smoky are the stage 1's Byron? and do you think you'll need a turbo with the sticks you have?
They really aren't bad at all. Now, I have canned tunes on my TS chip, but it runs pretty good surprisingly. In 50 and 75 setting, there is a little smoke, but it clears up quick. In the 100 and 140, you can smoke someone out on initial pull, but then it turns to a light gray haze. I was just thinking today that I wouldn't HAVE to get a turbo, but I probably still will in the Spring. But if I wasn't able to for some unforeseen reason, it would not be the end of the world. It still pulls very well and EGTs are manageable. Hope this helps!
