So I'm suspecting the torque convertor not unlocking all the time. Sometimes when you come to a stop the engine bogs down and stumbles, being an inline six when it does it the whole truck shakes and you can feel it on the steering wheel, the voltmeter plunges as well due to low rpm. It doesn't do it all the time and when it does do it the engine either bogs down and gets choked or and dies or stumbles around and eventually revs way up, which tells me the engine is trying to overcome the load bit is hitting the max the computer will let it go. This also happens sometimes when you put it in gear and have the brakes on, it gets worse if you put it in gear and start to turn, almost garuanteed to die if you do that. I have checked codes numerous times, weekly. Last night and every other times it's the same, 111 system pass and a stored vss signal code. I do have a little speedometer bounce at crusing constant speeds, the trans fluid is clean not burnt smelling and ***** dead in the correct spot on the dipstick.
So I did some googling and their were complaints of hard shifts especially 1 to 2 because the torque convertor is locked. I have developed hard shifts as well, it will lurch stuff off the dash and break the tires loose on gravel, their was no shift light blinking and it happened gradually so I didnt notice it right away but the shifts are much harder through all the gears than stock
Try driving the truck around with O/D cancelled out. Turn it off before shifting to drive and take it for a spin. If it still does it the TCC (torque converter clutch, what I think your referring to) most likely isn't your issue as it will never lock up in the first place with O/D cancelled out.
That's totally wrong! The torque converter clutch WILL lock with the OD off.
It does sound like your torque converter is dragging. The causes of this are low trans fluid, damaged/missing internal filter, leaking internal seals, or a worn pump.
